Modeling Financially Successful People: An Exercise In Paradox/Oprah Winfrey

Something Ive noticed is that the more someone becomes truly themselves, the more they embrace their own unique purpose and nature; yet, at the same time, the more they embody fundamental universal qualities shared by many great men and women throughout history.

Greatness may be hard to define, but you know when you are in its presence!

Lets begin with some commonalities I have observed in many financially successful people. They tend to

wake up early take walks regularly be punctual respect the power and precision of language read regularly and with purpose keep physically fit keep their agreements be profoundly honest with themselves be tactfully honest with others view money as a tool for self-expression and service be committed to excellence and never-ending growth identify and capitalize on their own strengths identify and bring out the strengths of others enjoy the success of others

I could go on and on, but I think this is a good start. It is remarkable that such a consistent pattern emerges, and at the same time, increased individuation (as the great Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung noted) occurs as well.

Successful people draw on the specifics of their life journey, unique talents, the resources at hand, their unique personality and body type, and the specifics of their cultural milieu as grist for the mill  all in service to their inspired vision and purpose.

They are in the world, but not of it. They have a sense of proportion and know what this world can and cannot provide.

Oprah Winfrey is a wonderful example of someone who, from as early as she could remember - from age 4 - did not define her sense of what was possible for her by what she had already experienced in this life.

Surrounded by poverty and abuse, she somehow had a deep sense that her life was going to be different - unbounded by present circumstances.

Many philosophies exist that attempt to explain the origins of such certainty. Regardless of the explanation, she did indeed have such a knowingness from an early age.

A study of Oprahs own words about her life reveal the following personal philosophies, viewpoints, and practices:

Follow your gut, your instincts, your heart I am responsible; I must do good works Even though I am responsible, invite God into my life; Pray Be compassionate Model Excellence (She studied Phil Donaghue and his show (the leading daytime talk show at the time) deeply when she was considering starting her own) & and then use that as a springboard to find your own way Be yourself! Have passion for what you do Education is one of the highest values (She has started schools for the very poor, and has pledged to pay for college for many children) Books are key  They expose possibilities Constant growth is THE journey of life Forgiveness is a must for true happiness and success (She publically forgave her sister who violated many family confidences when she leaked personal information about Oprah to the press) Excellence is important  Always do your best Focus on what you can GIVE Persist. Never give up. Believe in yourself Be comfortable in your own skin

Oprah is a living example of the power of Love to rise above apparent limitations. She also reminds us of the joy available when we are fully in service to Life.

The webcast put together by Oprah based on Eckhart Tolle's book, "A New Earth". has brought a higher consciousness to massive amounts of people throughout the world.
